Studge with a point to prove
Daniel Sturridge has been included in Roy Hodgson’s preliminary 26 man England squad despite question marks about his mental attitude. With Marcus Rashford also a surprise inclusion, the Liverpool striker will not want to find himself as one of the odd men out when the England boss trims the squad to 23. Sturridge has pledged his allegiance to Liverpool after clear the air talks with Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, so there would be no better time for the striker to remind everyone of his undoubted talent in tonight’s Europa League Final against Sevilla.
However, Sevilla have a forward with his own point to prove, in the shape of Kévin Gameiro, after the hitman was overlooked for Euro 2016 when France announced their squad earlier this week. The Frenchman has been outperforming his Liverpool counterpart in a number of key areas as clearly illustrated in the Oulala infographic below.
It promises to be a fascinating Europa League final at St Jakob-Park with Champions League qualification at stake. Liverpool fans will be hoping that Sturridge rediscovers some of the form he showed alongside Luis Suárez, when the Reds went so close to lifting that elusive Premier League title, back in the 2013/14 season.
Sevilla though, are looking to secure their third straight Europa League title and if they are to clinch the trophy again, it’s likely to be the finishing prowess of Gameiro that swings the cup in their favour.
