Premier League Fantasy Spotlight: Manchester United

Fantasy Football Portal - Manchester-UnitedJosé Mourinho is the man charged with returning Manchester United to the summit of English football.

Mourinho, who had made no secret of his desire to take over from Alex Ferguson, has a lot to prove for perhaps the first time in his managerial career, having been sacked by Chelsea for a second time. Despite leading the Blues to the Premier League title, Mourinho lost control of his squad and was fired with the club seemingly in disarray.

The Portuguese manager had a successful first season in the Old Trafford hot-seat, winning both the League Cup and the Europa League, with the latter ensuring qualification for the Champions League but his former club, Chelsea, regrouped under Antonio Conte to reclaim the title.

United’s investment in new talent paid off, ensuring that they are back in the Champions League after missing out on a top-four place under Louis van Gaal’s tutelage but now they will be judged by their performances on the biggest stage of all.

While Mourinho has proven that he is as close as there is in football to a guarantee of trophies, old rival Pep Guardiola has really laid down a marker at Manchester City, presenting him with one of the biggest challenges of his managerial career.

Transfers

Mourinho signalled his intention from the off, making four big signings following his appointment. with  Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Paul Pogba joining in the summer of 2016.

However, despite collecting silverware in his first season, the United manager knew that the Red Devils were far from the finished article. Club record goalscorer Wayne Rooney returned to Everton, with Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelöf coming in.

Mourinho’s concerns about Mkhitaryan having the mental and phsyical attributes needed to be a success at Old Trafford have resulted in the Armenian international heading to the Emirates in a tantilizing swap deal that sees Alexis Sánchez heading the other way.

Will the Chilean international be the missing piece in the puzzle?

Man United tactics and formation

Mourinho typically plays a 4-2-3-1 that can easily morph into a 4-3-3.

Mourinho’s teams are always very strong at the back and he has a reputation for closing matches down once his side are ahead, something that fantasy managers should be wary of.

It’s imperative that fantasy football managers garner an understanding of why he favours certain players and the role set pieces are likely to play throughout the course of any season……
