Liverpool top another table
In Defensive frailties marring Klopp progress we highlighted how Liverpool were topping the goals scored Premier League table for 2016. However, despite this feat they would still only have been in 7th place if the same sample of games were converted into league points. A crushing defeat in the Europa League final was not the ideal way to end the campaign either but a whole host of Liverpool’s players have been rewarded for their efforts.
The Oulala infographic below indicates that 12 of the Reds players will be in France – no other Premier League team will have has much representation at Euro 2016 as Liverpool.
Liverpool’s player of the year Philippe Coutinho will also be in action this summer, representing Brazil at the Copa América Centenario, which kicks off in the United States on Friday.
It’s been 26 years since Liverpool were last crowned league champions and with the Reds missing out on a place in Europe this time around, Jürgen Klopp will have no excuses should their 2016/17 challenge falter. With both Manchester clubs having appointed new managers, meaning that Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho will once again renew their rivalry, it promises to be another open title-race – with Liverpool likely to be among the 5 or 6 clubs that are genuine contenders.
For the record Liverpool’s Euro 2016 contingent include: Nathaniel Clyne (England), Jordan Henderson (England), Adam Lallana (England), James Milner (England), Daniel Sturridge (England), Martin Skrtel (Slovakia), Daniel Ward (Wales), Joe Allen (Wales), Emre Can (Germany), Simon Mignolet (Belgium), Christian Benteke (Belgium), Divock Origi (Belgium).
Jürgen Klopp and all Liverpool supporters will be hoping that they all come back unscathed so that the Reds can have another go at ending their title drought by topping the one table that matters!
