A Contrarian Strategy

The curtain falls on an unforgettable English Premier League season on Sunday and daily fantasy football operators have some mouth-watering prizes on offer. Competition is likely to be fierce so it may pay to side with one or two low-owned players in an attempt to differentiate your line-up from the pack. This is often referred to as a contrarian strategy so let’s look at the weekend slate to try to unearth one or two hidden gems.

Fantasy Football Portal - EPL - GW38

Most managers will stack their line-ups with players from Arsenal, Southampton, Manchester United and Manchester City this weekend for obvious reasons. Players from these sides are likely to form the core of most manager’s sides but electing to pick one or two players that can mark your line-up out from the crowd could make all the difference. We discussed the race for the Golden Boot earlier this week and it is sure to be a motivating factor for the three protagonists. However, for the purpose of this article we are going to look elsewhere.

Liverpool are likely to field a weakened team at the Hawthorns, with that Europa League final on the horizon, so it may be worth looking at a few Baggies players. They have been installed as favourites by the bookmakers for this one and were involved in that infamous five-all draw, in Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge at Manchester United. Perhaps Salomón Rondón will be the chief beneficiary if West Bromwich Albion have a real go, while Saido Berahino might want to put himself in the shop window again, if selected.

Fantasy Football Portal - Ross Barkley

Everton have sacked Roberto Martínez after a poor run of results, so Joe Royle and David Unsworth come in to oversee proceedings for their final game of the season. The Goodison Park faithful could do with something to cheer them up, so there’s no better time for Ross Barkley, Everton’s highest rated player on WhoScored, to give them a reminder of his talents, ahead of Roy Hodgson’s England squad announcement on Monday.

It’s time to think outside the box – go against the grain and select a player or two that will give you an edge on Sunday!
