The Race for the Golden Boot
The curtain comes down this Sunday on a Premier League campaign that will never be forgotten and fantasy football managers looking to get involved are likely to be spoilt for choice, judging by some of the season finale contests that are on offer.
The race for the Golden Boot adds a little extra spice to the occasion with Harry Kane in the box seat, sitting one goal ahead of both Jamie Vardy and Sergio Agüero. However, the latter has just been crowned Barclay’s Player of the Month, with his April award being the fourth time he has picked up the accolade in his career. His minutes per goal stat in the Oulala infographic below is particularly eye-catching and he looks a real live threat to wrestle the Golden Boot prize away from Kane but more on that later.
The bookmakers have Kane as the strong favourite at a top-priced 8/13 with Agüero at 5/2 and Vardy at 6/1. Vardy’s missed penalty last week could prove costly and a trip to Chelsea might not be that easy, if the deposed Champions attempt to put down a marker for next season, against the newly crowned Champions.
Sunderland’s victory over Everton put the final nail in the Magpies coffin so Spurs could easily go up to Newcastle and run-out handsome winners. However, one point will be enough to ensure that they finish second ahead of Arsenal and a few of their players may well have other things on their mind, with Roy Hodgson set to name his Euro 2016 squad on Monday.
This could open the door for Agüero, with Manchester City having the greatest motivation of the three sides. Agüero was immortalised by Martin Tyler’s commentary when he scored that stoppage time winner to help City pip rivals United to the title back in the 2011/12 season. The Red Devils are just two points behind the Citizens, who will need at least a point to ensure that Pep Guardiola is presiding over Champions League football again, when he takes over the reins at the Etihad.
Fantasy football managers will need to decide which of the three or which combination of the three to go for when selecting their line-ups this weekend. Something tells me that a few will go for the Argentinian striker and if there are a few twists and turns who would bet against another ‘Agüerooooo’ moment!
