The Ronaldo Conundrum
There’s a high quality midweek slate for daily fantasy football managers to assess with one key question that needs addressing – can you afford to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo in those Champions League line-ups?
Real Madrid entertain AS Roma and will expect to finish off the job after securing a two goal advantage from the 1st leg, so there’s no real surprise to see them with the highest goals projection of all the teams involved this week.
The remarkable Ronaldo has contributed 57% of his side’s goals in the competition so far this season, a quite staggering statistic.
The Portuguese flyer has chipped in with 3 assists as well but it is his propensity to shoot that really catches the eye. He’s dominating the shots per game table, as can be seen in this WhoScored graphic, averaging an incredible 8.1 attempts per game, which is even better than his 2015/16 La Liga average of 6.3.
If you are playing at a fantasy football site where shots and shots on target are rewarded then this is highly significant but will, of course, be factored into his valuation. If you decide to include him, you will have to make plenty of sacrifices elsewhere, while if you choose to fade him, you will be have the option of a more balanced line-up, salary wise.
It will probably boil down to the type of contest you are entering but his ownership levels are likely to be through the roof nevertheless.
Elsewhere, Chelsea versus Paris St Germain promises to be a terrific return match as well and the runaway Ligue 1 leaders have been installed as slight favourites by the bookmakers for the Stamford Bridge encounter.
Ronaldo is $10,300 on DraftKings UK (vs Roma, $50K Budget) in their Champions League Contests
