That Sergio Agüero Bombshell

Injuries to top points scorer Agüero shakes up Fantasy Premier League market

What a difference a week can make in football.

Fantasy football managers were clamouring to get Sergio Agüero into their line-ups for GW6 and the Argentinian striker did not let them down, registering a goal and an assist in Manchester City’s 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace, to cement his place at the top of the FPL points scoring table.

However, following his unfortunate accident in Holland, it now looks like he will be side-lined for the foreseeable future so anybody who has him their side will have to make some quick adjustments for GW7 and onwards.

Now if you are a regular reader of this column, you will know that we were left with egg on our face when we took the bold decision to abandon Manchester City coverage, citing too many imponderables as the main reason. However, a lengthy absence for Agüero would certainly alter that situation, with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling offering far greater appeal.

Having said that, we are prepared to keep our powder dry for this weekend at least, with the Citizens facing a daunting task against champions’ Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Our FPL squad stays as it is but an injury to Reuben Loftus-Cheek limits our bench options.

Our biggest concerns centre around Roberto Firmino and Álvaro Morata, so it’s a case of fingers crossed that both feature from the off in their respective games.

Romelu Lukaku keeps the armband but even though we are beginning to lose patience with Dušan Tadić, we are happy to give the Saints’ wideman another chance against a depleted Stoke City rearguard.

Arsenal did us a favour when they secured a clean sheet against West Brom on Monday, so it would be a welcome boost if they could repeat the feat against Brighton on Sunday.

Gameweek 7 is almost upon us – how will City cope without the brilliant Agüero?
