Sweat with the Best
Join DraftKings and play Fantasy Football Portal’s FREE EPL contest
Over recent years, daily fantasy sports have swept the United States by storm, so if you have ever wondered what all the fuss is about, here’s your chance to experience the ‘sweat‘ first hand.
Fantasy Football Portal are delighted to have teamed up with DraftKings to present all new visitors with a chance of winning a share of $200 in a FREEROLL contest that covers the 5 English Premier League games being played this Saturday (GW11) – Bournemouth v Sunderland, Burnley v Crystal Palace, Manchester City v Middlesbrough, West Ham United v Stoke City and Chelsea v Everton (late kick-off).
Since you are unlikely to be familiar with DraftKings daily fantasy football product here are a few points worth mentioning:
Roster flexibility
You are required to select 8 players from the available budget ($50k) – 1 goalkeeper, 2 defenders, 2 midfielders, 2 forwards and 1 utility pick, who can occupy any outfield position. Some players are also classified as midfielder/forward (M/F) so you will have ‘increased’ flexibility with the type of line-up you can put out, if you include any of these.
Goalkeeper bonus
Unlike the majority of fantasy football formats, DraftKings actually reward goalkeepers with bonus points if they finish on the winning side. This makes our goal projections even more important, as it enables a goalkeeper to rack up a respectable points total, even if they are not tasked with making too many saves in a particular game.
Scoring nuances
The DraftKings scoring criteria favours players that excel in certain areas, one of which is ‘crossing’. It’s therefore particularly important to pay close attention to players that are capable of putting in a steady stream of crosses from wide positions and corner kicks.
The late swap
One of the most frustrating things for a fantasy football manager is selecting a player who subsequently plays no part. With clever management you can eliminate this scenario on DraftKings. Simply, double-check the early game team news once they are announced, editing any selections as needed, then use the late swap feature for any matches with later start times. It can also be used as a tactic by assessing where you are in the contest in relation to rival managers on the leader-board prior to the last match starting, then switching to other player(s) in an attempt to make up ground or consolidate a strong position. Marcos Alonso, for example, is expected to start for Chelsea in the final match of the freeroll contest, so he would be an interesting utility pick, as illustrated in the line-up below.
