Fantasy Football – Contrarian Strategy

A fantasy football contrarian is a player who thinks outside the box and makes picks that many other users will not even consider.

While being a fantasy football contrarian is undoubtedly a risky strategy, it is a ploy that can result in big points totals and therefore help players to compete for big cash prizes in fantasy games.

The logic behind being a contrarian fantasy football player is a sensible and logical one. If you have players others do not include in their squads, this differentiates you from a lot of other teams and therefore improves your chances of finishing in the top places and winning big money.

There are a couple of different ways to go about a contrarian strategy in daily fantasy football games. The first of these is to steer clear of the handful of high ticket players who many users will build their squads around – for example Sergio Agüero, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Players like these are always going to be very popular picks regardless of how high their price tag is for a daily fantasy football contest, so fading them can be a good place to start if you believe they are going to have a bad week.

Being a contrarian player also requires the ability to spot low value players who are going to score many more points than other users expect.

Selecting a striker from a struggling team can be a good contrarian strategy if they are facing another relegation-threatened side, for example, while going for a goalkeeper who is facing a title challenger will pay off if they have a great match.

Evidently some luck is required if you are going to win daily fantasy football competitions while using a contrarian strategy, but it is a good way to ensure your squad is different from the pack.
