Fantasy Premier League Players to Avoid

Gameweek 27 sees the League Cup final between Liverpool and Manchester City taking place, meaning some teams will not be in Premier League action this coming weekend.

As well as City and Liverpool, Newcastle United and Everton will not be in league action during GW27, meaning Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers should try to avoid picking any players from those clubs.

Double gameweeks are just around the corner, but for now fantasy players must decide whether to stick or twist with the stars they have who are not playing at all on GW27.

So which players should fantasy managers be removing from their teams for GW27 action?

Liverpool

GW26 was a very good one for Liverpool, with Nathaniel Clyne, Kolo Toure and Philippe Coutinho among the top-scoring players for the weekend after a 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.

But with Liverpool in cup final action, Jürgen Klopp’s charges should be avoided on GW27.

Fantasy Football Portal - Firmino

Roberto Firmino is another Liverpool star who has been a popular fantasy pick in recent weeks and he is the only one of the club’s players to have scored over 100 points this season on the official Fantasy Premier League game. Tens of thousands of people have already swapped Firmino out of their fantasy teams for other players ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Alberto Moreno and out-of-form Belgium international striker Christian Benteke are among the other Liverpool players being transferred out by a lot of fantasy players ahead of GW27.

Manchester City

Manchester City players have been crucial for fantasy players this season, with the club boasting three players who have scored over 100 points despite recent results seeing Manuel Pellegrini’s men slip behind their rivals in the Premier League title race.

Yaya Touré, Sergio Agüero and Kevin De Bruyne have all reached triple figures, with Bacary Sagna and goalkeeper Joe Hart just a couple of points away from joining them.

Fantasy Football Portal - Sergio Agüero

But City’s cup match on GW27 means Touré and Agüero are being ditched by droves of fantasy players, while right-back Sagna’s recent injury has persuaded users to drop him as well. In fact, Sagna has been transferred out more than any other fantasy star ahead of this weekend’s games.

Agüero is by far the most expensive player on the official Fantasy Premier League game, so anyone electing to swap the Argentine international striker out of their team will have a lot of extra budget to play with – which could be vital with the remaining games running out fast.

Everton

Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley have been two of the best performing fantasy football players this season, but with Everton not playing on GW27 users should consider dropping the pair.

Fantasy Football Portal - Ross Barkley

Lukaku’s 16 Premier League goal haul is only bettered by one player – Leicester City’s pacy phenomenon Jamie Vardy – while Barkley has contributed eight goals and seven assists despite Everton’s inconsistency throughout the season to date. Despite their excellence, both Lukaku and Barkley just miss out on places in the WhoScored team of the season so far.

Leighton Baines is another Everton star who fantasy users have been dropping for GW27, although the England international left-back only recently returned to action after a long injury.

Newcastle United

It has been a strange season for Newcastle United, who have spent the best part of £100 million in new players over the last two transfer windows but find themselves rooted in the bottom three of the Premier League regardless of their heavy investment.

GW27 could see Steve McClaren’s Magpies slip into even more relegation danger as they do not play this weekend, giving rivals Sunderland, Swansea City and Norwich City a chance to increase the rapidly growing concern at St James’ Park.

Fantasy Football Portal - Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum has been by far Newcastle’s most reliable player this season, the 25-year-old scoring nine Premier League goals in his first year in English football.

But the Dutchman’s excellence has not persuaded fantasy players to keep faith with him over Newcastle’s blank GW27, with tens of thousands of managers having already transferred him out.
