Euro 2016 MD2 – 15th to 18th June
Goal projections for MD2 of the Euro 2016 group games
It’s a case of déjà vu for the 2nd round of group games with hosts France again having the highest goals expectancy, with their opponents, this time Albania, having the lowest. Prior to the first game the big question was whether Dimitri Payet would get the nod over Anthony Martial in Didier Deschamps starting XI – he did – and he justified his inclusion in emphatic style, scoring the decisive goal, so he is sure to be a popular selection across Matchday 2 fantasy football contests.
Olivier Giroud looks a lively Golden Boot contender and will surely fancy his chances of adding to his tally against Albania.
Germany and Spain are the other two nations to focus on based on the goal projections. Spain got the job done against a Czech Republic side that offered little in attack but Álvaro Morata fluffed his lines, failing to take advantage of the opportunity afforded to him and it was defender Gerard Piqué who rescued the day. Turkey should present another straightforward task on paper but fantasy managers again have the unenviable task of choosing which Spanish players to include.
It’s hard to know what to make of Germany’s performance in the opener. Some of the pundits were impressed, claiming that the World Cup winners cruised through the game and a WhoScored possession percentage of 60.8% would seem to back up that theory. However, despite this apparent dominance they still managed to concede 12 corners to the Ukranians, the most any side has conceded at Euro 2016 to date. Benedikt Höwedes did not look comfortable at times so they will be hoping that Mats Hummels is fit enough to start against the Poles.
If not, there could be goals at both ends making this match-up a particularly attractive proposition for daily fantasy football managers and Poland have a real goal threat in the shape of Robert Lewandowski, a player the Germans will know plenty about!
