You can put your shirt on Mahrez

Roy Keane was far from impressed with Eden Hazard last night as Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League. Last season’s player of the year, limped off midway through the second half, but it was his antics at half-time that really riled the former Manchester United captain. The Belgian winger, for reasons only known to himself, decided to swap shirts with Angel Di Maria as the players were leaving the pitch at half-time, a clear indication of his lack of focus.

Hazard has been nowhere near the level that he achieved last season but even those great heights have been surpassed by the front-runner for the 2015/16 Player of the Year award – Riyad Mahrez.

Despite having played 10 games less, the Algerian winger has already surpassed the figures Hazard achieved, as can clearly be seen in the www.oulala.com infographic above. He will surely be crowned the 2015/16 Player of the Year, with Mesut Özil perhaps the only conceivable danger.

Claudio Ranieri was quick to allay the fears of both Leicester City fans and fantasy football managers alike when Mahrez limped off the pitch in last weekend’s win at Watford, with what looked like a hamstring strain. A touch of cramp was the diagnosis and the 15 goal winger should be fit to face a struggling Newcastle United side in the Monday Night Football.

However, it’s not just personal accolades that Mahrez is seeking – if he can maintain his form and stay fit – there is every reason to believe that he can steer the Foxes to the most unlikely of title triumphs. Now that would be an incredible achievement for a club that was bottom of the table on Christmas Day just 15 months ago!
