The FPL Nightmare
Sometimes Fantasy Premier League managers just need to take it on the chin
The Fantasy Premier League season is a campaign and there will be setbacks along the way. Last weekend was a case in point.
Sergio Agüero smashed it on Saturday with his huge haul against Huddersfield and things were only going to get worse for a select number of FPL managers that had not included the Manchester City ace in their line-ups.
Wanderers were one of them and the fact that they had chosen Alexis Sánchez to be their most expensive signing was only going to compound matters further.
The Chilean international didn’t make Manchester United’s match-day squad but this news failed to materialise ahead of the GW2 deadline, with respected sources such as Ben Dinnery even failing to pick up on it before the cut-off time.
A 2 point cameo from first choice substitute Tom Cairney wasn’t going to make this particular manager feel any better but these nightmare scenarios are something FPL managers have to face throughout the course of a season.
In hindsight, picking Sánchez was perhaps a poor decision. United put in a tepid performance against Brighton without him and there is no guarantee that things will improve when the former Arsenal man returns to the fray.
Whether that happens on Monday is anybody’s guess but Wanderers were not prepared to take that chance so they have drafted in former United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of GW3.
United just look bereft of ideas so utilising so much of the overall budget is too difficult to justify.
Predicting team news is never easy and some sources even suggested that Agüero himself would not feature from the off last weekend.
The Argentinian did though and the rest is history so there is nothing FPL managers can do apart from riding the waves when these shocks happen and sticking with their process!
