The Esteemed Triumvirate

FPL managers should be looking for a fast start if they opt to captain Agüero, Salah or Kane

As we look ahead to GW27 there is no surprise to see the usual suspects – Sergio Agüero, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane dominating our latest Armband Rankings. However, all 3 do come with a slight question mark hanging over them this weekend due to their clubs’ participation in next week’s Champions League knockout ties.

Game minutes are a precious commodity that all fantasy football managers should look to maximize and this is even more significant when the player in question is actually wearing that captain’s armband. Agüero and Salah may struggle to get 90 minutes under their belts this weekend, so you will be looking to get some points on the board early on if you opt for either of them.

Kane looks a safer bet in terms of game minutes and he does have a terrific scoring record against Arsenal. However, derbies are never easy to predict and the Gunners will be the fresher side here.

Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling both look like risky propositions in terms of game minutes as well, so you might want to look elsewhere if you are overly concerned about the Champions League effect. This brings Manchester United duo Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sánchez into the equation along with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

Manchester United take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday, with the home side sitting just 1 point above the relegation zone. However, in his efforts to increase his side’s chances of survival, Magpies’ boss Rafael Benítez has switched to a 4-4-1-1 formation, so it will be fascinating to see if the Red Devils can carve out enough chances in this one, to make either Lukaku or Sánchez a viable play.

Perhaps Hazard is a safer option, although Chelsea boss Antonio Conte does appear to be on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge. The Blues take on West Brom in the Monday Night Football.

Selecting your GW27 captain promises be one of the trickiest decisions of the season – will you go with one of the esteemed triumvirate?
