The Alexis Sánchez Departure

Why the Arsenal forward had to go

When we brought Alexis Sánchez into our Fantasy Premier League side in December, the reasoning was simple – motivation – he was playing for a transfer.

The Chilean international performed OK, picking up 32 points in 5 gameweeks but can we really come up with strong enough reasons to retain his services?

Both Manchester clubs are reported to be interested in signing Sánchez and everyone seems to have an opinion on where he should go but the simple answer is no.

Why?

  •  He seems to be a shadow of the player that became a ‘must-have’ FPL asset last season
  •  If he stays at Arsenal, he’s unlikely to be there next season so there is no real incentive for the player to give his all towards the Gunners’ Champions League qualification cause
  • If he moves to Man City, rotation becomes a major issue
  • He’s expensive

There just seems to be better options available so we’ve opted for a -4 hit, taking out Alexis Sánchez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek and replacing them with Mo Salah and the in-form Jesse Lingard.

Gameweek 23 - FPL Line-Up

You might recall that our squad was in a bit of a state ahead of GW22, prompting us to play the ‘Free Hit’ chip so with the remainder of our squad reverting to type, we’re happy to report that it now looks like we will be able to field a fairly strong line-up in GW23

Romelu Lukaku (C) and Andreas Christensen should start, while Kieran Gibbs also seems to be winning his fitness battle. Roberto Firmino is also available, having avoided any FA action following last Friday’s altercation with Mason Holgate.

That’s our GW23 line-up but will we regret selling Alexis?
