Strike it Rich in Gameweek 6

Goal projections for GW6 Fantasy Premier League contests

Strikers are very much in the spotlight in Gameweek 6, as a plethora of injuries have left fantasy football managers scratching their heads.

Olivier Giroud and Romelu Lukaku are nursing toe injuries, while Harry Kane has been ruled out for an indefinite period with ankle ligament damage. Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge’s fitness levels have again been brought under the microscope, following his early substitution against Chelsea but Golden Boot favourite Sergio Agüero is available again for league-leaders Manchester City, after completing his 3-match ban for violent conduct.

Both of  these sides come into the game round in impressive form so it’s no real surprise to see them sporting the highest goal expectancies in Gameweek 6.

The Citizens are the top scorers in 2016/17 but they are still lagging behind the Reds in terms of calendar year league goals. Back to back victories over the last two Premier League champions augurs well for the Merseysiders and their supporters are starting to believe that they can finally end that long title drought. A report released earlier this week indicated that Liverpool players run further than players from any other Premier League club, suggesting that Jürgen Klopp’s high pressing is paying off in dividends and it goes some way to explaining why Sturridge is struggling physically as he attempts to overcome his much publicised injury problems.

Liverpool’s defensive frailties do remain a concern but Hull City are not expected to trouble them too much in GW6 so many fantasy managers may opt to stack their line-ups with Liverpool players this weekend.

Elsewhere, Vincent Janssen is likely to step in for the injured Kane and he could be an intriguing fantasy selection. Spurs’ Dutch striker scored 27 goals in 34 league appearances for AZ Alkmaar in 2015/16 but can he seize the opportunity presented to him?

Getting those striking options right holds the key to Gameweek 6 riches so keep a close eye on the injury situation before finalising your selections!
