After leaving Monte Carlo behind, The Kid lands in the Spanish capital ready to join his new club. He expects football, training and introductions. What he gets first is a taxi ride and some unexpected advice.

The Kid has completed his move from Monte Carlo and is finally ready to begin the next stage of his football career.
Waiting for him outside the airport is The Cabbie, a leather-jacketed taxi driver with sunglasses, strong opinions and an immediate interest in his new passenger.
The Cabbie welcomes The Kid to Madrid and quickly establishes that he knows exactly who he is transporting. The Kid may be a new arrival, but his World Cup performances and transfer have already made him one of football’s most recognisable young players.
The Cabbie promises to become his regular driver. It is a simple offer, but it begins one of the most important relationships in the Storybook series.
The Cabbie Enters the Story
The Cabbie is more than a driver.
He becomes The Kid’s guide to Madrid, a source of unsolicited advice and an outside observer of the strange world surrounding elite football.
Inspired by Travis Bickle, Robert De Niro’s character in Taxi Driver, The Cabbie combines a familiar visual identity with dry football humour and street-level wisdom.
Managers, players and club presidents may believe they understand the game, but The Cabbie usually has a different view from behind the wheel of his black taxi.
His arrival gives Storybook a character who can observe football from the outside while still remaining close to everything happening around The Kid.
Leaving Monte Carlo Behind
As the taxi journey continues, The Kid begins thinking about everything he has left behind in Monte Carlo.
His move to Madrid represents a major opportunity, but it also means leaving familiar teammates, friends and routines. The excitement of joining one of the world’s biggest clubs is mixed with the reality of starting again in a new city.
The Kid is particularly aware that he will no longer be playing alongside his close friend, The Tiger.
That friendship remains an important part of the wider Storybook story, even though their football careers have taken them in different directions.
The Football Inspiration Behind the Comic
This chapter was inspired by the period following James Rodríguez’s transfer from AS Monaco to Real Madrid after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Rodríguez arrived in Madrid as one of the tournament’s biggest stars, carrying enormous expectations after winning the Golden Boot as the World Cup’s leading goalscorer.
Storybook turns that major football transfer into the beginning of a fictional adventure. Rather than focusing only on the transfer fee, tactics or media attention, the comic imagines the smaller moments surrounding the move: arriving in a new city, meeting unfamiliar people and reflecting on the life left behind.
Characters Featured
The Kid
The young Colombian footballer has left Monte Carlo following his breakthrough World Cup. Optimistic and enthusiastic, he is eager to begin life in Madrid but is already thinking about the people and experiences he has left behind.
The Cabbie
A dry, observant taxi driver who collects The Kid when he arrives in Madrid. He promises to become The Kid’s regular driver and soon develops into a trusted adviser, commentator and street philosopher.
The Tiger
The Kid’s close friend from Monte Carlo is not physically present in the chapter, but he is already on The Kid’s mind. Their separation introduces a friendship that continues across the original Storybook series.
Behind the Gag
The central joke is the contrast between The Kid’s status as a major football star and the ordinary nature of his arrival.
He may have completed one of the biggest transfers in football, but he still needs a taxi from the airport.
The Cabbie immediately treats him less like a global celebrity and more like another passenger who might need help finding his way around the city.
That understated relationship becomes central to Storybook. The Kid brings the excitement and innocence. The Cabbie supplies the experience and scepticism.
Looking Back
Originally published in 2015, this page introduced The Cabbie, one of the defining characters in the Fantasy Sports Portal Storybook universe.
Although The Kid is the central figure in the original story, The Cabbie becomes its most consistent observer. He sees the football world from the outside, comments on its absurdities and often understands situations before the people directly involved.
The taxi ride also moves the story away from Monte Carlo and into Madrid, where The Kid must now meet his new manager and report for his first training session.
