Playing The Wildcard

FPL wildcard unleashed as we aim to finish season on a high

Manchester United’s clean sheet at the Etihad enabled us to register another green arrow in the overall FPL rankings, as Antonio Valencia and David de Gea secured those coveted shut-out points.

However, with José Mourinho now seemingly down to the bare bones both players are sacrificed, as we activate our second Fantasy Premier League wildcard of the season with just 4 rounds to go.

Our tactics are simple – get in as many double gameweek players as possible for GW36 and Gw37, then use the bench boost chip in the latter.

This means that we are focusing on a number of teams as we make wholesale changes to our FPL squad but Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is the exception to the rule, while Andros Townsend also survives, with the intention being to replace him ahead of GW37 since Crystal Palace only have one fixture scheduled that week. It’s a similar story for Liverpool but we’re expecting big things from the mercurial Brazilian, as the Reds attempt to fend off interest from Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs, to ensure that they finish in the top-four. All of our other picks are set to feature twice in GW37 but we will only have one other free transfer available to us, to deal with any unforeseen circumstances.

The rest of the squad is a complete overhaul and Spurs’ Harry Kane just edges out Jermain Defoe for the GW35 armband.

There are changes between the sticks as Wily Caballero and Petr Cech come into the squad and we’ve no hesitation in easing Big Wily into the starting line-up this weekend. He should be good for an extended run in the side, following Claudio Bravo’s injury in the Manchester derby and Middlesbrough’s lack of firepower means that he has a great chance of securing a clean sheet.

Southampton and Arsenal players feature heavily due to the fact that both sides have 2 upcoming double gameweeks, while Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, who both have reasonable fixtures until the end of the season, come in and will hopefully be at their best to justify their expensive valuations.

The wildcard has been played and we await the latest chapter in a fascinating Fantasy Premier League season!
