The tournament lobby is where the list of upcoming contests is displayed.

Tournament Lobby

The FanTeam tournament lobby is easy to navigate. There is a main menu that lists all available sports and leagues as well as the option to customise your own competitions and head to head challenges. This is done simply by challenging a friend or other user who you can add to your ‘Buddylist’. The default option shows open tournaments created by Admin but you can also check for contests that have been created by other users. It’s easy to toggle to see other options such as free to enter contests, only in addition to competitions that are running or have ended.

Other useful options include drop-down arrows that display contests by different prize structures, squad sizes which lists the traditional 11 a-side games (Normal) as well as 5 and 6-a-side formats, buy-in size and you can also adjust settings to choose your desired number of opponents by clicking on ‘Filter’.

Available leagues are listed in the side menu and you can discover additional information about each listed contest by clicking on the arrow positioned on the far right. This will contain prize money distribution, fixtures included and so on. Simply click ‘Enter’ to begin the make your selections.

Team Selection

For normal game mode you select up to 15 players from your stipulated budget. You must place 11 starters on the pitch which can be done by dropping and dragging the players onto the pitch or by double-clicking on the player in the player lists.

If you select more than one outfield substitute they should be prioritized e.g. 1 to 3 and the lowest number will automatically replace non-players changing formation as appropriate so long as the minimum conditions for each playing position are satisfied. You also have the option to autocomplete your selections.

You must always choose at least one player in each position and FanTeam offer 2 additional formats of play for single game-week contests. For Normal game mode the default setting is 11 players plus 1 sub and allowed playing formations include 5-4-1, 5-3-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 3-5-2 and 3-4-3.

6 a-side contests where you select 6 players plus substitutes (default 1) with options for playing formations including 2-2-1, 2-1-2 and 1-2-2.

5 a-side contests where you select 5 players plus substitutes (default 1) with 2-1-1, 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 being the available formations.

Any non-players will automatically be replaced by your substitutes subject to availability for the relevant position. You also need to choose a captain who earns double points and have a vice-captain as backup in the event that your captain does not play. Click on the drop-down arrows to the left of the pitch to assign these responsibilities.

Each player listed as an information icon next to his name that allows you to see data relating to past matches and the players are displayed by position but can be filtered by score, team name, starting position and salary.

Game Rule and Scoring

If there are variations to the standard rules in a particular game mode any specific changes will be highlighted and you must always build your squad from the stipulated budget.

The FanTeam scoring system will look familiar to players who have participated in season-long fantasy football contests with points primarily being awarded for goals, assists and defensive actions. On top of this your selected ‘captain’ will earn double points, another common feature seen with traditional fantasy football formats.

There are also bonus points on offer with the best 3 performing players in each match receiving 3, 2 and 1 points respectively. These are based on in-game data accumulated for each player by the stats provider and will be added at the end of each completed match.
