Lewis leads the Championship
After dominating the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to have a similar result in Monaco this weekend and extend his lead in the Drivers Championship over rival Sebastian Vettel.
One of the prestigious events on the racing calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix offers a different challenge to racers. Set on the streets of Monaco, this grand prix is one of the most challenging and often sees the introduction of the ‘safety car’ on race day.
So what should we expect this weekend ?
Last year Mercedes struggled, seemingly not able to extract the best from their car. This year, Team Boss Toto Wolff is less than confident and feels that his team will struggle again to unlock its potential claiming that Monaco along with Hungary and Singapore is not a track best suited to the DNA of Mercedes.
After introducing Halo mounted rear view mirrors in Spain, Ferrari have been told to remove them for Monaco following an FIA clarification. The general feeling was that Ferrari had exploited this for aerodynamic gains rather than to improve visibility and that clarification was needed.
So who will prevail ?
Last year, qualifying was dominated by Ferrari and Red Bull and 2018 suggests much of the same with Bookmakers tipping either of the Red Bull drivers to win this weekend.
Engine Power is mostly irrelevant on a track that averages the slowest of all Grand Prix on the F1 calendar meaning downforce plays a key role. For this reason you could see the Mclaren, Torro Rosso and Renault cars all in the mix in Monaco. Haas could be there too although Romain Grosjean picks up a grid penalty for his part in the three car pile up in Barcelona. (Below)
