GW24 Captaincy Tips
What every Fantasy Premier League manager needed to know before selecting their GW24 Captain
Zlatan Ibrahimović failed to live up to his star billing on Wednesday evening, as he produced a somewhat underwhelming performance in Manchester United’s stalemate with Hull City. It was a frustrating night for the big Swede, who only managed to get 2 of his 4 shots at goal on target, although he was perhaps a touch unlucky not to pick up an assist after setting up Paul Pogba with a gilt-edged chance that the Frenchman spurned.
Manchester United faced champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday and Ibrahimović again featured highly in our GW24 ‘Captometer’ rankings. However, there were two other candidates expected to fare better.
GW24 ‘Captometer’ Ratings
Editor’s note: This article was originally published during the 2016/17 Fantasy Premier League season. The original GW24 Captometer table is no longer available following a later website migration. The accompanying analysis has been retained as part of the Fantasy Sports Portal archive and provides an example of how our original captaincy model was applied on a gameweek-by-gameweek basis.
Manchester City had the highest goal expectancy of all the teams in Gameweek 24 action, so there was no surprise in seeing Sergio Agüero featuring so prominently. However, it was worth remembering that these projections looked at a combination of each player’s goals and assists potential and that the City striker was still looking for his first assist of the 2016/17 English Premier League season. Having said that, he was expected to be restored to the starting line-up for the visit of Swansea City on Sunday and was sure to be a popular armband choice.
Spurs’ Harry Kane topped the GW24 rankings, though, despite a below-par performance against Sunderland on Tuesday evening that even prompted the England striker to complain about the Black Cats’ combative style.
Kane had 13 goals and 3 assists to his name that season and was looking to build on that when Middlesbrough visited White Hart Lane.
Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe had both failed to score in their previous two starts but each made a certain amount of appeal too.
Would Harry Kane have been your choice for the GW24 captain’s armband?
