Fantasy Spotlight – Gameweek 21

The Standout Performers from Gameweek 21

It was a thrilling night of action in the Premier League on GW21, with late goals and shock results causing havoc for daily fantasy football players and their carefully selected teams.

But who were the standout performers during Wednesday night’s games?

Here is the Fantasy Football Portal Team of the Week for GW21.

Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester City’s title challenge is showing no signs of fading away and the Foxes’ 1-0 win at Tottenham was one of their most eye-catching results of the season so far. Kasper Schmeichel was in terrific form, keeping a third successive clean sheet in the Premier League.

With Leicester facing rock bottom Aston Villa in GW22 he has a chance to make it four in a row.

Bacary Sagna

A 0-0 home draw with Everton was disappointing for Manchester City, but full-back Bacary Sagna put in a sparkling performance in defence to give his side back-to-back clean sheets.

Sagna has been one of the top performing fantasy players all season and is fast approaching must-pick status as the title race gathers speed.

Robert Huth

Robert Huth’s brilliant late header was enough to give Leicester a 1-0 win at Spurs that brought them level on points with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Huth has always been known for his aerial strength but it was his first Premier League goal this season. Huth also collected a third clean sheet in a row to be one of the top players in GW21.

John Stones

Few gave Everton a chance of holding City at bay but John Stones was in fine form despite filling in at right-back due to Seamus Coleman’s injury and the return to fitness of Phil Jagielka.

Stones was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty for a rash tackle on Raheem Sterling in injury time at the Etihad Stadium, but his excellent performance deserved that stroke of fortune.

Matt Targett

Matt Targett is one of the cheapest players available in daily fantasy football, but he defied his low price with a superb attacking display in Southampton’s 2-0 home win against Watford.

A clean sheet put Targett on the way to a fine score but the young left-back also provided the pinpoint cross for Shane Long’s opening goal. He is certainly one to look out for in future weeks.

Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey’s fourth Premier League goal of the season helped Arsenal earn a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Welshman’s tireless energy levels helped him get on the end of a through-ball and beat Simon Mignolet at his near post to make it 1-1.

Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino has had a tough start to life in the Premier League since his summer move from Hoffenheim, but there are signs he is finally finding his feet at Liverpool.

Firmino scored twice against Arsenal and as he is usually listed as a midfielder in daily fantasy football he is well worth considering in future as Jurgen Klopp has often deployed him up front.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Refereeing decisions grabbed the spotlight at the Liberty Stadium as 10-man Swansea City were beaten 4-2 at home by relegation rivals Sunderland.

But one positive on a bad night for the South Wales club was Gylfi Sigurdsson’s fourth Premier League goal of the season as the Iceland midfielder coolly converted a first half penalty.

Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe scored twice for Sunderland in their last Premier League match, a win at Crystal Palace, and he went one better with a brilliant hat-trick to give his side’s survival hopes a boost.

Defoe may have been offside for the first two of his three goals but with five strikes in his last two league matches he is a player who should be on the radar of all daily fantasy football players.

André Ayew

André Ayew can count himself unlucky to have ended up on the losing side after a fantastic individual performance for Swansea against the Black Cats.

Ayew earned the penalty Sigurdsson scored from before putting his team ahead with a brilliantly taken finish. Ayew has been giving the chance to lead the line for Swansea and looks more at home up front rather than on the wing.

Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud is arguably the hottest striker in the Premier League right now, with a brace against Liverpool taking his league tally for the season to 12.

Giroud first got his head to a corner, before turning a defender and curling a superb strike into the bottom corner to give his side the lead. Giroud has now scored nine goals in his last nine games.
