Another Chapter In A Remarkable Story

Will the Foxes fairytale continue in the Champions League quarter-finals?

Leicester City’s winning sequence came to an end on Sunday, when they came out second best in a 6-goal thriller at Goodison Park. However, since parting company with Claudio Ranieri, the Foxes managed to secure 6 consecutive victories to ease their relegation worries, while booking a Champions League quarter-final place in the process.

They will, however, face formidable opposition at this stage of the competition as they come up against the 2014 and 2016 finalists’ Atlético Madrid and the latest goal lines suggest that they have it all to do again, when they travel to Spain for Wednesday’s encounter.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid had mixed fortunes as they warmed up for their blockbuster Champions League quarter-final tie, which also takes place on Wednesday evening. The Bavarian giants  enjoyed an emphatic 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, to maintain their 10 point lead at the top of the Bundesliga but Real Madrid had to settle for a 1-1 draw with city rivals’ Atlético at the Bernabeau.

Frank Ribéry, Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski were all the score-sheet for Bayern, while Real’s disappointment was somewhat short-lived, thanks to Barcelona’s shock 2-0 defeat at Malaga. The German champions go into this double-header as favourites but they will be wary of the threat posed by their Spanish rivals, having lost 4-0 on home soil to Madrid at the semi-final stage in 2014.

Neymar was dismissed for the Catalans during their shock defeat in Malaga and it certainly wasn’t the best preparation for Tuesday’s tie in Turin, where they will face a Juventus side that are on course for a sixth straight Scudetto, even though Champions League glory continues to allude them.

Borussia Dortmund take on a free-scoring Monaco side in Tuesday’s other tie and goals are expected to be on the menu again.

Can Leicester City continue their remarkable journey by defying the odds yet again?
