Can Sergio Agüero build on his impressive record against Newcastle in GW24?

Manchester City surrendered their invincibility status when they came off 2nd best in a 7 goal thriller at Anfield last Sunday and it was striker Sergio Agüero who bore the brunt of the criticism from City’s supporters.

Despite chipping in with an assist, the Argentinian striker had a day to forget, being dispossessed 8 times in total and failing to register a single shot on target reflecting just how poor his performance was.

Agüero will be keen to put things right on Saturday when the Citizens entertain a Newcastle United side that he has enjoyed considerable success against in the past.

In 11 Premier League appearances against the Magpies he has scored 11 times and even managed to score 5 times in one unforgettable 6-1 victory at the Etihad back in October 2015.

With such strong stats, Agüero deservedly tops our GW24 Armband rankings and Rafa Benitez will most likely be fearing the worst.

While Aguero’s team-mates – Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling also look like viable alternatives for the captain’s armband, the best of the rest are almost certainly Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

Kane currently tops the goal-scoring charts, sitting 2 clear of Liverpool’s Egyptian international and both players are in action against struggling sides in GW24.

Fixture difficulty is something that should always be factored in when contemplating captaincy choices, so, with Spurs facing a Southampton side that has now slipped to 17th spot in the table and the Reds traveling to rock bottom Swansea City for the Monday Night Football both players tick the right boxes. They also enjoyed success in the reverse fixtures earlier in the campaign as well, with Kane smashing home a hat-trick in his side’s 5-2 victory over the Saints at Wembley, while Salah recorded 2 assists in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of the Swans at Anfield.
