Separate Lives
Pep Guardiola finally nails his colours to the mast
It may have taken almost a third of the season but we’re still not sure whether Fantasy Premier League managers will be sleeping any easier now that Pep Guardiola has revealed that he does not see Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Agüero playing together as a front two until Benjamin Mendy returns to action next year.
This means that FPL managers can either gamble on which one will start on any given weekend or alternatively focus on the plethora of other attacking options that have lit up the season for the Citizens.
Guardiola’s free-scoring Manchester City side have the highest goal expectancy in GW13, with a trip to the John Smith’s Stadium next on the agenda.
Jesus and Agüero will fancy their chances of hitting the back of the net against Huddersfield Town but even though they both figure prominently in the GW13 Armband rankings, it may be prudent for Fantasy Premier League managers to give both a wide berth.
Unless you are happy to risk seeing your selected captain only getting a 20 minute cameo performance from the bench of course!
The table with ID 41 not exists.
Bearing this in mind we can expect the usual suspects of Romelu Lukaka and Harry Kane to be the most popular choices yet again this weekend.
Kane will be eager to find his scoring boots again when Spurs host a hapless West Bromwich Albion side on Saturday.
The Baggies are the most ‘out of form’ Premier League side, having picked up just 2 points from their last 6 games and this dismal run has cost Tony Pulis his job.
Lukaku ended his Manchester United goal drought against Newcastle United last Saturday but the return to fitness of Zlatan Ibrahimović does give Mourinho additional options in attack.
Ibra was happy to compare himself to a lion in the post-match interviews following the Newcastle game but Lukaku is not lacking in the strength and power department either and his stats in a United shirt stack up well against the veteran Swede, as highlighted in the Oulala infographic below.
Lukaku is expected to lead the line for the Red Devils against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday but Mourinho has already showed an inkling to deploy him in a wide right role in the latter stages of games to accommodate Ibrahimović.
That’s the ‘Armband’ lowdown for GW13 as Jesus and Agüero embark on their separate lives – for the foreseeable future at least!
