The Beast From The East
Can Cenk Tosun catch fire as the Fantasy Premier League reaches its climax?
Fantasy Premier League seasons tend to be littered with examples of certain individuals taking off at specific stages. However, even though the 2017/18 edition has seen the likes of Mo Salah and Leroy Sané emerge as premium selections, there has been a distinct lack of ‘must-have’ budget options.
Sure, the likes of Jesse Lingard and Richarlison have flattered at various stages but neither of them have quite managed to achieve such a lofy status.
So, with 8 rounds of the current season to go and just 4 fixtures for Fantasy Premier League managers to get their teeth into in GW31, everybody can easily be excused for searching for that ‘Holy Grail’!
Yes, we’ve previously discussed the risk of taking hits in such a precarious gameweek but not taking a gamble or two is almost as unthinkable as well.
So, who is on our radar?
Wilfried Zaha ticks plenty of the right boxes and he could be the ideal man to get the best out of Alexander Sørloth (if fit) and Christian Benteke, a real physical front two.
Therefore, the Crystal Palace wideman get the thumbs up in tandem with Cenk Tosun.
The latter might seem like a speculative selection, especially when you consider that the Toffees have Liverpool and Manchester City on the horizon but the Turkish forward just looks to have more potential than all of the other exposed types that are set to strut their stuff in GW31.
Game minutes now look much assured and he also has a fantastic penalty kick pedigree (24 from 25) which should stand him in good stead for spot kick duties alongside Leighton Baines following Wayne Rooney’s most recent failings. Attention to detail seems important to the former Besiktas striker as well and our money is on him taking Everton’s next penalty!
While Tosun seems to be winning over the Goodison Park faithful, Everton’s woeful away form needs to be rectified.
A trip to the Potteries, against relegation-threatened Stoke City might just be the occasion for the Merseyside outfit to find their feet away from home, so Tosun (and Zaha) come into our GW31 line-up, even though we will not be fielding a full complement of players this time around.
Going against Salah for the GW31 armband is almost unthinkable – so it will be fascinating to see if he becomes the ‘most-captained’ FPL player of all time in a single gameweek?
Jonjoe Kenny is very unlikely to feature so we are banking on returns from our ‘8’, ahead of a wildcard move that will prepare us for the deployment of those chips that are set to define our season – the ‘Triple Captain’ and the ‘Bench Boost’!
First things first though – so let’s see if Tosun can step up to the plate!
