Premier League Table Taking Shape

Super Sunday heavyweight clashes headline the Gameweek 11 action

After a quarter of the season, the Premier League table is now beginning to take shape, with the Big 6 occupying the top 6 places.

On Sunday, Chelsea entertain Manchester United at Stamford Bridge while Arsenal travel to the Etihad to take on Pep Guardiola’s star-studded Manchester City side.

José Mourinho will be keen to improve on his abysmal recent ‘away’ record against ‘Big 6’ clubs, though, when he returns to his old stamping ground, having failed to win any of the last 10. Five have ended in defeat, while neither side could break the deadlock in the other five. The United boss is not expected to alter his approach too much, so another goal-less draw could well be on the agenda.

It’s a scoreline we’re not expecting to see repeated at the Etihad though. According to the latest Premier League goals forecast, only one side, Crystal Palace, are more unlikely to secure a clean sheet in GW11 than Arsenal – a real testament to the power of City’s attack.

However, it’s the Eagles’ fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday that is likely to attract much of the attention of Fantasy Premier League managers. Victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday will ensure that Spurs book their place in the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League and the fixture with Palace is immediately followed by another international break.

England will face Germany and Brazil in World Cup warm-up friendlies during this one and a plethora of Spurs’ players are expected to be involved, including Harry Kane, whose fitness is sure to come under the microscope yet again.

Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of competition for the full-back positions now as well, adding to his selection dilemmas but it’s play-maker Christian Eriksen that warrants a special mention. Denmark have a World Cup qualifying double-header against the Republic of Ireland coming up, games in which they will need their talisman firing on all cylinders. Will Poch be tempted to rest him against Palace?

Elsewhere, goals are expected at the London Stadium when West Ham United host Liverpool. These 2 sides have conceded 19 and 16 goals respectively and as an indicator of just how porous that makes them, bear in mind that Mourinho’s United have only conceded 4 times in 10 Premier League games!

It’s a big weekend for the Big 6!
