Introduction
Bet4theBest described itself as the “ultimate fantasy football betting site”, combining traditional daily fantasy football contests with innovative fantasy betting products that were unlike anything else available at the time.
The platform supported competitions including the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, UEFA Champions League and Europa League, while offering several different contest formats to appeal to a broad range of fantasy football players.
Among its standout features were:
- Traditional fantasy tournaments.
- Fantasy MVP contests.
- Fantasy Coupon games.
- Fantasy Derby challenges.
- One-to-one contests.
Unlike most daily fantasy football operators, Bet4theBest did not use a salary cap. Instead, managers simply had to observe squad composition rules and player limits.
Competition Lobby
After registering, players were introduced to the various game formats before accessing the main dashboard.
The platform’s equivalent of a contest lobby consisted primarily of the Tournaments and Instant Bets sections.
The dashboard also provided:
- Current and previous Gameweek activity.
- Personal statistics.
- Access to the company blog.
- Account management tools.
One of Bet4theBest’s most distinctive innovations was its Instant Bets feature, allowing players to predict which real-life team would accumulate the highest fantasy score during a Gameweek.
Fantasy Derby contests compared rival clubs based purely on fantasy points. For example, if Liverpool and Everton both played during the same round, whichever side accumulated the higher fantasy total would win the Derby regardless of the actual match results.
The platform also offered Fantasy MVP contests, where users attempted to identify the single highest-scoring player according to the site’s fantasy scoring system.
Private tournaments and head-to-head challenges were also available.
Team Selection
Bet4theBest gave managers significantly more flexibility than most fantasy football platforms.
There was no salary cap, allowing users to concentrate entirely on selecting the strongest possible line-up while complying with roster restrictions.
A standard fantasy squad consisted of:
- 1 Goalkeeper.
- 3–6 Defenders.
- 2–6 Midfielders.
- 1–3 Forwards.
Managers could select a maximum of four players from the same club.
This flexibility enabled a wide variety of formations, including defensive and midfield-heavy line-ups that were rarely available on competing platforms.
Before submitting an entry, managers selected both a captain and vice-captain, with the captain receiving double fantasy points.
Teams could be saved and entered into multiple tournaments without rebuilding the squad each time.
Rules and Scoring
Bet4theBest used live Opta data to calculate fantasy scores throughout contests.
Players earned fantasy points for actions including:
- Goals.
- Assists.
- Clean sheets.
- Winning corners.
- Saves.
- Winning fouls.
Negative actions also resulted in points deductions, including:
- Fouls committed.
- Yellow cards.
- Red cards.
- Own goals.
If teams finished level on points, the tie-breaker was determined by the number of points earned from goals scored during that Gameweek.
Our Verdict
Bet4theBest introduced several genuinely original concepts to daily fantasy football. Removing the salary cap simplified team building, while Instant Bets, Fantasy Derby contests and Fantasy MVP competitions offered refreshing alternatives to traditional fantasy tournaments.
Although the platform is no longer active, it remains an interesting example of how operators experimented with new fantasy football formats during the early growth of the industry.
