Bring On The Whipping Boys
Strong favourites expected to deliver in Gameweek 22
Manchester City versus Tottenham Hotspur is undoubtedly the pick of the GW22 action but fantasy football managers will more than likely be focusing their attention elsewhere, after the fixture list threw up a number of games in which strongly-fancied home teams have some eye-catching expected goal supremacy figures over their opponents.
Leaders’ Chelsea entertain Hull City, while Liverpool play host to bottom club Swansea City and Arsenal welcome Burnley to the Emirates Stadium.
Even though it is not a double gameweek, these are the sort of fixtures that could tempt Fantasy Premier League managers into playing those precious chips.
However, before stacking any line-ups with players from Chelsea and Arsenal, keep a close eye on developing team news. There is no guarantee that Diego Costa will walk straight back into the Blues’ starting XI and Olivier Giroud will need to shake off an ankle knock, if he’s to have any chance of continuing his hot goalscoring streak.
The GW22 action gets under way at Anfield and a quick look at the latest English Premier League odds would suggest that the bookmakers are not anticipating a shock result.
Liverpool have scored more goals (49) than any other side, while visitor’s Swansea City have a defence that resembles a sieve, having let in more goals (also 49) than any other team.
The major problem for fantasy football managers, though, is determining which players are most likely to get on the scoresheet for the Reds. Leading scorer Sadio Mané is away on AFCON duty with Senegal and no player is yet to reach double figures for league goals this season.
The Swans, who prop up the table, may not categorise themselves as the whipping boys of the division but a goal difference of -26 tells its own story and they could be in for another long afternoon on Saturday!
