Liam Dawson, the seasoned Hampshire all-rounder, has been called up to the national squad following a hand injury to Somerset’s Shoaib Bashir. The latter sustained the fracture while fielding during the third Test, which England narrowly won by 22 runs.

Dawson, 35, last appeared in a Test match back in 2017 but brings a wealth of domestic experience, including 371 wickets and over 10,000 first-class runs. His recent performances in the County Championship have been exceptional, earning him consecutive PCA Player of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024.

“Liam Dawson deserves this opportunity. His consistency and form in county cricket, especially for Hampshire, has been remarkable,” said Luke Wright, England’s National Selector.

In contrast, seamers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton have been released to rejoin their county sides for the ongoing County Championship.
