A Tearful Exit
Injuries and Cup fever on the menu in GW16
Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno was in tears when he came off to a standing ovation at Anfield on Wednesday evening after picking up an injury that has ruled him out of the Merseyside derby.
The much-maligned Moreno is currently part of our 15-man Fantasy Premier League squad so any long-term issues would certainly need to be addressed.
It’s unclear exactly how long he will be sidelined for but it appears that there is a good chance that he will also miss Liverpool’s midweek game with West Bromwich Albion.
While GW16 is our immediate priority, this does mean that we may have to face the prospect of fielding Brighton and Hove Albion’s Lewis Dunk at Spurs or West Brom’s Kieran Gibbs at Liverpool in GW17.
There is also the chance that we might need to play Baggies’ keeper Ben Foster in the latter, something we are really not too keen on doing with the Reds’ Fab Four in such fine form.
This could hinge on what Roy Hodgson elects to do with the number one jersey at Crystal Palace. The former England manager has been keeping his cards close to his chest so a recall for Wayne Hennessey, who missed last weekend’s game due to a back spasm, in place of veteran Julian Speroni would certainly go some way to reducing our selection headaches.
The GW16 plot thickens when you factor in that FPL Cup qualification is also on the line, where you will need to be among the top 80% of the field or so in terms of gameweek score to book your place in the 1st round of the cup proper.
All things considered, we have decided to keep our powder dry so that we will have the extra transfer available to us ahead of GW17.
Harry Kane has the pick of the GW16 fixtures so he keeps the captain’s armband and we are banking on the England striker rediscovering his best form to help us avoid a tearful early cup exit!
